Sabra Desai is a Kellogg Fellow, registered trauma-informed social worker, psychotherapist, and transformational educator consultant. With a multidisciplinary approach that integrates Emotion-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, and Mindfulness Therapies, she provides culturally responsive care to individuals and couples. Her work focuses on addressing anxiety, depression, shame, trauma (intergenerational and vicarious), life transitions, grief, and loss through a strength-based, client-centered framework anchored in resilience.

Internationally, Sabra has supported individuals and couples living with HIV/AIDS, helping them heal from guilt, shame, and betrayal. Her expertise also includes organizational training and community capacity building on issues such as human rights, newcomer integration, and mental health.

Sabra’s academic career spans teaching roles at York University, Ryerson University, and Humber College. Her publications explore topics including youth issues, violence against women, diversity, and inclusion. A dedicated advocate, she collaborated with a team to establish Interim Place, the first shelter for women and children survivors of family violence in Peel Region. She also initiated a Mental Health Community of Practice at Humber College to enhance support and networking for youth-focused staff.

Sabra’s contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including the 2015 YWCA Woman of Distinction Award for Education, reflecting her commitment to equity, resilience, and transformation.
